F.A. "Mike" Mitchell-Hedges (1882-1959) may be somewhat obscure for most folks, but is of interest to forteans* because he was the owner of one of the infamous crystal skulls. He was also an explorer, gambler, author, and soldier with Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution.

And here's the crystal skull.

The term fortean is derived from Charles Fort (1874-1932)--philosopher of the strange, author, iconoclast, journalist, humorist, and pioneer researcher of strange phenomena. (Thanks to Strange Magazine for this useful and concise definition.)
